United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Alan Standing Soldier, Jr., a/k/a Alon Standing Soldier, Jr., age 19, of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on April 5, 2012, and pleaded guilty to Count I of an indictment that charged him with First Degree Burglary. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 25 years' custody and/or a $250,000 fine.
The charge relates to Standing Soldier unlawfully entering the home of another at Wolf Creek, South Dakota, on June 13, 2011. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for July 30, 2012. The Defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
